It is real weird, how a person adapts to circumstances while getting their baby’s grow up into adults and having their own baby’s!
One of mine lives in another country and thus has to travel for at least 6 hours to come anywhere near us. Well actually I take at least eight hours to get to him which is basically due to the fact that over there they can drive any speed they want to and often than take the highest they can!
It is one of the reasons why I do not like to drive overthere!
You are overtaken by someone that goes 40 to 80 km faster than you and you hardly see them arriving in your back mirror, while you are proudly driving a little over the Dutch speedlimit, while sneakily laughing and feeling quite satisfied about oneself….
That is, until one of those speedmonsters passes you by, coming from nowhere, not even acknowledging your small victory, but destroying it in nano of a second!
And due to him living over there, he has also adapted to these mind boggling, utterly dangerous, quite irresponsible high speeds and fortunately he has the car which can drive these speeds easily and securely!
So every time they/he comes to me anywhere, I am back to my mummy ways, scared that something will go wrong on the way, although I know that both my daughter iL and my sons both are quite good drivers,
Hell, I trained them myself after them passing their license.
But unfortunately they are not alone on the road and it only takes one stupid move!
So last nigh they left their home, drving over to Sainte Mère Eglise to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day remembrance with us, they will stay in a Mobile Home and Tokyo and I with the dogs will stay in our camper parked in front of it, so my grandson can wakes us up every morning !
Eric would have loved it, he, probably dressed already, would be diving under the blankets in order not to ruin our grandsons big entrance!
Tokyo has no such qualms, when he sleeps, he sleeps, so my eldest grandson knows he has to climb into the bed in order to wake him up.
Thank goodness Tokyo is a good sport and accepts the fact that he is used to be bounced on!
- He is also my grandson biggest friend and dare I say almost toy, because together they get up to crazy things, though we know that Tokyo will give his life for him, we also have to sometimes protect Tokyo from him, because junior is expanding his boundaries and Tokyo comes from a country where it is a no no, to say no to a child!
Fortunately, I have no such problems and told my grandson that Tokyo is my friend and thus for that reason ha to be respected even without said boundaries.
It has already been a bit of a learning curve for the both of them…
But presently my son and his wife and kids are sleeping in an Hotel somewhere in France, they drove till 3 am and they will wake up in a couple of hours, in order to drive the last bit of their voyage!
And as per usual I have got presents for them, like I have presents for my other grandchildren whom I will hopefully see in another fourteen days.
It is funny how you get bags full of stuff for them, without conciously trying to buy anything for them. You just happen to walk past something and totally fall in love and have to have…
Yep! I am one of those grandparents!
I have given each child their own bag, wrote their name on it and fill it up, I just hope that their parents will also like it…
I already had my fun, thinking how it would suit and what they would look like in it.
I cannot wait till they get there, being worried about their travels..
As a parent you do not fully realise that the worry about your “baby’s” does not automatically stops when they become of age, dare I say it: unfortunately it never goes away, eventhough you trust them implicitly, there is always the possibility of some other irresponsable fool ready to destroy your happiness, that feeling will never go away!
So for now, i am getting dressed, walk to dogs, have some breakfast, leave the Super U parking very carefully because it is packed with campers!
I will drive the last 900 meters to the official Camping, park my camper in front of their mobile home, get my presents out on the deck of that mobile home after i have showered and reorganised my camper.
And than the waiting game begins, with a bit of luck, Tokyo will take me almost forcefully for a coffee in town, “for gawd sake, relax woman” while I realise I am a very lucky person indeed!
Just another while, before I see them!
